Quick Tricks for Setting Deadlines in Project Schedules
Microsoft Project allows you to set deadlines for almost anything Tasks, Summary Tasks, or Milestones.
Instead of using the Task Information dialogue, there is a much faster way!
Insert the Deadline field (column) in your current table by right-clicking in the column header to the right of where you want the Deadline column inserted.
![]()
Then you can either use the drop-down calendar (below) to select your deadline.
![]()
Or just type a date in the deadline field.
It’s quick, effective, and avoids creating unnecessary constraints in your schedule.
Deadlines also give you one more discreet task attribute on which to filter for doing risk and other kinds of analysis.
